I & Claudius : Travels With My Cat by Clare De Vries -
Great! Funny Book!My swiss friend in Xela, Nadine, recommended and then lent to me this hilarious travelogue.
What happens when a young British woman travels the southern United States with a 19-year-old cat? It is Thelma and Louise meets Travels with Harry. This is Claudius', the 19 year old Burmese cat, swan song and a journey of emotional discovery for Clare. US travel from a young British female perspective.- such a hoot.

The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
What was it like to be an immigrant to the US in 1906? I don't think it has changed much. What was the meat packing industry like at the turn of the century? This book was instrumental in changing and enforcing the meat inspection laws. A vivid, gripping, emotionally pulling story of a lithoanian family who immigrated to Chicago in 1906. Amazing portrait of life at the turn of the last century.

Footprint Mexico & Central America Handbook 2001
By far the BEST guidebook for Central America. When I found my guide(the Rough Guide, listed next) lacking, I would seek out someone with the Footprint guidebook. This book is thorough. The pages are velum thin, thus allowing ample room for an abundance of information. Maps are clear and easy to read. Everything you could possible need to find is listed including where is a good auto mechanic when you need one. Footprint is the guide of choice for me followed by Rough Guides then by Lonely Planet.

Rough Guide to the Mayan World
Good guide for the Mayan Region of Central America but gets very thin if you go off the "Mayan Tour" approach to C.A.

Lonely Planet Guatemala
Most of my compatriats swore by the Lonely Planet Guidebooks, but L.P. just don't agree with me or fit my needs. I prefer Footprints, followed by Rough Guides, then Lonely Planet. Lonely Planet does however have an excellent website.

Footprint South American Handbook 2001
Hands Down winner for South American travel - everyone agrees. The fact that this is edition 77 should say something for its level of quality and detail.

La Flaca - Jarabe De Palo
A favorite at Salon Tecun

Mana - MTV Unplugged [LIVE]
Another favorite at Salon Tecun. Mana is a C.A. favorite with a voice and style like Sting and the Police. I thought it was Sting singing in spanish the first few times I heard this. Excellent album!

Elvis Crespo - Suavemente
A favorite at Casa Verde and all of the chicken buses. Great dance pop-merengue.
